HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
Health and Safety Policy Statement:
Red Rose Rollers ARSC is strongly committed to encouraging our members to take part, but the health, well-being and safety of each individual is always our paramount concern. We recommend levels of training dependent on age and ability, and expect our junior athletes to participate within these boundaries.”
Health and Safety Policy:
To support our Health and Safety policy statement we are committed to the following duties:
- Undertake regular, recorded risk assessment of the premises use by the club and all activities undertaken by the club.
- Create a safe environment by putting health and safety measures in place as identified by the assessment.
- Ensure that all members are given the appropriate level of training and competition by regularly assessing individual ability dependant on age, maturity and development.
- Ensure that all members are aware of, understand and follow the club’s health and safety policy.
- Appoint a competent club member to assist with health and safety responsibilities at any session.
- Ensure that normal operating procedures and emergency operating procedures are in place and known by all members.
- Provide access to adequate first aid facilities, telephone and qualified first aider at all times.
- Report any injuries or accidents sustained during any club activity.
- Ensure that the implementation of the policy is reviewed regularly and monitored for effectiveness.
Sports facilities are checked on arrival for any dangers which may cause accident or injury. Issues are dealt with however should a safe skating environment not be achievable; skating will be cancelled. It is understood that the cancellation of skating will be disappointing however safety remains the primary concern.
As a club member you have a duty to:
- Remain vigilant to risk and identify any dangerous / potentially dangerous conditions or occurrence to the lead coach for the session or a club official.
- Take reasonable care for your own health & safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or not do.
- Co-operate with the club on health and safety issues.
- Adhere to the codes of conduct relevant to the session.
- Correctly use all equipment provided by the club.
- Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
- All skaters are encouraged to warm up prior to exercise and drink fluids to prevent dehydration.
- Skaters can wear protective clothing if they choose to, and positively encouraged to do so if learning Free Skating (jumps and spins) or if they have had an injury which requires such protection.
Accidents and Injuries:
If any person present (skater, spectator, volunteer or coach) becomes aware of an injured person at the venue, they must report this without delay to the coach on duty in order to ensure that the injured party and other skaters are protected from further harm such as by ensuring no collisions occur with a fallen skater. DO NOT MOVE THE INJURED PARTY until they have been assessed by a First Aid trained person.
If an injury, accident or dangerous incident occurs; an accident report form must be completed and handed to a club official and sports centre management.
If the occurrence is due to conditions at sporting facility, this is immediately reported to facility staff that have their own accident reporting and management system.
Minor falls, bumps and bruising occur regularly due to the nature of the sport and are not usually an issue.
First Aid:
Every session will be supervised by a coach who is first aid trained, Sports centre staff are also first aid trained.
First Aid kits and defibrillators are available at both Turton and Smithills Sports Centres and can be accessed at reception.
A telephone is available at reception in case of emergency and coaches / volunteers will also be in possession of mobile telephones.
